We are a third-generation, family-owned construction company based in Perham, MN that provides start-to-finish residential and light commercial construction. We handle a wide variety of building projects and no job is too big or too small. Our success is based on putting clients, employees, and community first because when they're happy, we're happy!

Company History
1967
Friends Clarence Hemmelgarn and Milo Martinson start H&M Construction building homes and cabins in Perham, MN.
1971
Clarence's son, Jim Hemmelgarn, age 12, joins the company as a Jobsite Sweeper.
1980
Milo retires and sells his half of the business to Clarence, who renames the company Hemmelgarn Construction.
1989
After a lifetime in construction, Clarence retires. Jim takes over full-time and renames the company Hemmelgarn Builders Inc.
1997
Jim's son, Troy Hemmelgarn, age 12, joins the company as a Jobsite Sweeper, as is tradition.
2007
Troy graduates from MSCTC with a construction management degree and joins the company full time.
2018
Troy and Megan purchase the company. Jim briefly considers retirement, laughs, and gets back to work.

Our Team
We are a tight knit crew with deep experience in all facets of construction including design, concrete, framing, roofing, and finishing work. After nearly a decade with us, Dan is still our "new guy" but everyone else has been on our team for 20+ years. This cohesiveness allows us to provide a smooth building process and overall better experience to our clients. Our crew is a bit camera shy but eventually we'll get their photos on here.
